The American Speed Association/Northwest Sprintcar Racing Association (ASA/NSRA) conducts its last two day show of the 2011 Championship season this Friday and Saturday September 9th and 10th at Meridian Speedway, Meridian, Idaho for the Tom Elliott Sportsman Classic presented by Cricket Friday night and the Pepsi Championship Finale for Meridian Speedway on Saturday that NSRA drivers will compete earning points for their own NSRA Championship.

This weekend is a two night event with Championship points earned for each night. The top three in points continue a tight points battle in their quest for the 2011 Championship. Good finishes will be of critical importance to Matt Hein, Sierra Jackson, and Andy Alberding.

Matt Hein, the 2008/09 Champion continues to hold his thin points lead (531), but now 2010 Champion Andy Alberding has moved into second place over Sierra Jackson after the two day Daffodil Cup at Western Speedway three weeks ago. Alberding reduced his point gap to Hein to just twenty-three points (508). Jackson now trails Hein by thirty points (501). Fourth in points Canadian Ron Larson (329) holds a thirty-seven point lead over fifth place Canadian Jeff Montgomery(292) Montgomery finds himself in a tight points battle with sixth place Darren Spiers (283) and seventh place Vern Scevers (280). Right behind fifth thru seventh another tight battle for eighth thru tenth. Greg Middendorf holds eighth (265), Johnny “Jet” Geisler in ninth just one point behind (264), Chris Schmelzle nine points behind Geisler in tenth (255). Points are critical not just for the top three but all the way through the top ten competitors.

Meridian Speedway is a quarter mile low banked track offering tight fast paced racing. Local Sprint Car drivers will join the NSRA drivers to create an expected field of more than 20 cars. All the NSRA drivers and teams will need good solid performances both nights to improve their points positions.

ASA/NSRA is the most exciting opened wheel racing on the west coast and by far the fastest. NSRA drivers currently hold 21 all time track records at venues throughout the region. These are open wheeled, winged sprint cars running on paved ovals utilizing 700 plus horsepower methanol-burning engines running on tracks that vary in length from quarter mile to five-eights mile facilities.
