From the President                                              05-07-2008

In light of the continuing increases in fuel costs, and all associated costs involved with travel these days the ASA Northwest Sprint Car Series is compelled to restructure our tow money payouts to maintain car count for Tour 2008 events.

Kenny Hamilton has offered a generous purse for the Diamond Cup Weekend May 30-31. After discussions with Ken and ASA/NSRA officials we have arrived at the following tow money structure:

70 mile and under radius from Meridian $50.00

Eastern Washington teams $300.00

Western Washington and Oregon teams $325.00

Canadian teams coming over on the ferry $400.00

This will be paid out Per Event.

This tow money structure will also be applied to the September 26th & 27th as well.

A new tow money structure will apply to all other events after the May WVSO event as follows:

70 miles and under radius $50.00

70 to 200 miles radius $150

200 to 400 miles $270.00

Over 400 miles $300.00

Canadian teams coming over on the ferry $400.00.

The officials will receive a $50.00 increase in compensation for the Meridian and Roseburg events.

Ken Hamilton says he has a number of Motel rooms at a reduced rate. Ken or John Wood can be reached at 208-888-2813 should you wish to reserve rooms. I would also suggest that you check out the ASA Racing web site and look into the preferred motel rates available through your ASA membership.

We will continue to work at finding ways and means of off-setting racing expenses to continue the growth of our sport.

ASA Northwest Sprint Car Series “Don Hein Memorial” presented by SHEDS R US at Douglas County Speedway, Roseburg, Oregon April 26th, 2008

The 2008 Championship season has begun ! The second scheduled race of the season became the first opportunity for the teams to start their run towards the championship as well as the first chance to compete on a racetrack. Unlike Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA a month ago the weather cooperated in Roseburg with sunshine and a 70 + degree day for the racers. Fifteen teams from Washington, Idaho, and Oregon unloaded their sprint cars at the track and set about preparing the cars for the day’s event.

ASA Northwest Sprint Car Series The Rock KISW 99.9FM “Doug James Memorial” at Evergreen Speedway, Monroe, WA March 29th, 2008

The weather won this race !

The weatherman was consistently calling for precipitation, possibly in the form of snow for race day.  In spite of the “doom and gloom” forecast 13 race teams entered the speedway to set up their respective pit areas.  The weather during the early afternoon cooperated rather well by keeping the raindrops in the clouds.  The day was cold however barely reaching 40 degrees.  A number of the teams had some concerns about air temperature especially during the evening racing.  Cold air temps can provide for possible “icing” in the venturis on the intake manifold with the nasty side effect of a stuck throttle.  Talking with some of the teams the consensus seemed to be keeping the motor warm would ward off icing in the intake.  Nose air inlets for the radiators were noticed getting taped up further than usual to keep more of the cold air away from the radiator helping to “get heat in the motor” and to be able to keep the coolant temp where drivers like it for maximizing their horsepower.

American Speed Association PR

ASA RACING BECOMES FIRST TO OFFER INSURANCE PROTECTION ON-AND-OFF THE RACETRACK
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (December 13, 2007)   The USA quite rightly leads the world in many, many fields, but sadly highway safety is certainly not one of them,  said Eddie Wren, executive director of Drive and Stay Alive, Inc. on their web site. And with a reported 6,328,000 highway accidents*, Wren can easily backup his claim.
Certainly, some of these accidents must have involved a racer or team heading to or from the racetrack. And while every sanctioning body can claim some level of insurance protecting these competitors during an event, only the American Speed Association now offers protection while traveling to and from an ASA-sanctioned competition.
